TV Time with DocSavag

Many times you see the advertisements for a new televisions show, maybe even one with an actor that you have liked in the past and you eagerly tune in hoping that it will be good but get disappointed in the end. Luckily this isn’t the case in this instance.

The new mid season CBS show called The Unit was just such a show for me. The star, actor Dennis Haysbert who you have probably seen either as President David Palmer on Fox’s 24 or as the Allstate Guy in commercials, was the draw for me. I love his work in 24 and the idea of the show about Delta Force appealed to me. I missed the first episode but managed to catch the second and to my happy surprise it was as good as I had hoped.

I’m not exactly sure what it is about the show that is so appealing to me. I think the far away locations and the raw action that is part of every show. There is both a reverence of men serving their country and a cynical lambasting of political forces and bureaucratic nonsense that is all to real in todays real headlines. There is Haysbert himself who is just an engaging personality and does very good in his role as the veteran lead of a team of special forces operatives who travel the globe to take on the tough jobs from taking down terrorists on an airplane, to recovering a downed satellite part. So far the 4 episodes I’ve seen (I managed to *cough* acquire *cough* a copy of the premiere episode) have been entertaining and intriguing. I hope that trend continues and the show is renewed for next season.

The Unit airs on CBS at 9pm on Tuesday Nights.
