Movie Review: Despicable Me Blu-Ray DVD

My wife and I had never seen this picture. We had always intended to see it but life always intervened and prevented it. So when the opportunity came up this holiday season I bought the new Blu-Ray for my wife for Christmas. Last night we watched the movie and extras on the disc.

The film is delightful and the cast is very good. Steve Carell is fabuous as Gru a misunderstood bad guy who really only wants to find the acceptance he never got as a child. Julie Andrews is also very strong as his mother who drives him to be the person he is. The story centers around Gru trying to pull off the heist of his lifetime and fulfilling a dream he has been developing since his childhood. All in an attempt to impress his indifferent mother. Along the way he has to adopt three orphan girls whom he uses to steal an important component he needs for his caper. The girls of course are adorable and they begin to take over his life.

The film is stolen most of the time though by the antics of the geneticly mutated minions which are Gru’s staff in his evil deeds. They are cute, mischevious little yellow guys who bumble, stumble and squabble there way through the movie constantly stealing scenes and breaking up emotional moments with their antics.

The dvd comes with extra shorts which highlight the minions and with fun behind the scenes spots about the production. All in all this is a fantastically fun film that is very well crafted. I’m sorry it took us this long to see it but it will, without a doubt become one of our favorite films to pop into the blu-ray player when we just want to watch something fun and mindless.
