Movie Review: Clash of the Titans

Its too bad I didn’t see this in 3D on a huge screen because that is the only way it would have been worth my time. The movie is filled with battles filled with obvious 3D lunges toward the screen and little else. The story is disjointed and muddled. Even being familiar with the first Clash of the Titans movie from the 80’s and being a Greek Mythology fan from way back didn’t help make this movie less confusing. The entire first half of the film I was watching the screen with a puzzled look on my face trying to figure out what they were doing with this story. Visually the movie is very good, but that hardly makes up for their disregard for the mythology and the overall confusing plotting of the film. Why was Io even in this story? She has nothing to do with the Perseus legend and why would he end up with her instead of marrying Andromeda which is how the story really goes? That whole plot line made no sense to me. Liam Neeson was also the most unimpressive Zeus in the history of film. The only good that came out of watching this movie is that I spend an hour reading the legends of Perseus again which was a lot more entertaining than this film. A+ for visuals, but F+ for just about everything else. I Know the movie going public is easily distracted by visuals but really we need to demand better story telling than this.

I am, at heart, a software developer though I am currently managing a small Information Technology department for a mid sized company located in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL. When I am not playing with the latest smart-phone or trying to become inspired to write code I read almost anything I can get my hands on from Pulp Era adventures to biographies of world leaders and everything in between.
