Kindle Everywhere Should Be the Standard

Amazon’s Kindle reading device is an amazing invention. I have been an ebook convert long before it was mainstream, and certainly before there was kindle or iBooks or Nook.

The real reason I’m a big fan of Kindle isn’t that it is better technically than the others, the reason is that Amazon seems to have bought into the idea that the point is the content not the delivery method.

With over 650,000 titles Amazon is far ahead of the others in content and they offer it to their customers on many platforms. So you can read your books on Kindle, on your PC, your Mac, your iPhone/iPad, Blackberry, and Android.

The best part is that you can register all of your devices on one account and the devices all sync your book to the last page you read on any of them, so I can go from my iPad to my Motorola Droid X and pick up right where I left off.

Ebooks should be about the books, not about the hardware. Amazon seems to get that with the kindle. Now if we could just get all readers to use one format. Epub anyone

I am, at heart, a software developer though I am currently managing a small Information Technology department for a mid sized company located in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL. When I am not playing with the latest smart-phone or trying to become inspired to write code I read almost anything I can get my hands on from Pulp Era adventures to biographies of world leaders and everything in between.
