Over the weekend White House spokesman Tony Fratto referred to former President Jimmy Carter as “increasingly irrelevant.”
What prompted this? Simple really Carter suggested that the Bush Administration was the worst in history. If thinking that (Carter has since recanted that opinion) makes you irrelevant then there are a lot of people in this country the White House feels are “increasingly irrelevant.” That shouldn’t surprise anyone since the major philosophy of this Administration for the past 5-6 years has been how little the wishes of the American people matter compared to their own ideas about how things should be.
I pondered briefly when I read this story how you could sell someone being irrelevant when you were refuting their claims in an official capacity as a spokesman for the executive branch of the US Government. If he were irrelevant to the White House they wouldn’t be wasting their time telling people his opinion doesn’t matter.
None of this should imply that I think Mr. Carter’s opinions about anything are particularly relevant, just that I don’t have a very high opinion about the Bush administration or their place in history. I doubt it is the worst administration for the country in history but it is likely in the top 5. It will take decades to undo the damage this administration has done to the liberty of this country and the Office of the president.
I suppose this makes me “increasingly irrelevant” as well. If I had any respect for the Bush administration that might hurt.
In closing I leave you with this link: Countdown. Its a way to remind the administration that their irrelevancy is approaching as well.
