Academy Award Challenge: The Blind Side Review

My wife and I watched The Blind Side on our Tivo via Amazon Unbox. We had downloaded it a month ago and recent family events had prevented us from getting to it and almost resulted in us missing it because it had expired. Luckily I had accidentally ordered it on two tivos and we still had one of them.

I found The Blind Side to be uplifting and entertaining. All through the movie I kept thinking that critics who scoffed at Sandra Bullok’s winning of the Oscar for her performance must have watched another film. I felt her acting in this film was excellent and found her completely deserving of the Academy Award.

The only part of the movie that I found a little odd was the reliance on the Monday Night football coverage revolving around Joe Thiesman’s gruesome broken leg at the hands of Lawrence Taylor. I understand the connection to the story, but I felt it was over emphasized at the opening of the movie. I think we had already seen that footage about a million times and showing it another 10 times before the credits was overkill.

Other than that quibble I have no complaints about the movie. I found the film to be very entertaining and engaging. Overall I rate this film an A.

As a side note this review was typed via my Ipad and a USB keyboard hooked up via the Camera Connection kit. I love technology…somedays.

I am, at heart, a software developer though I am currently managing a small Information Technology department for a mid sized company located in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL. When I am not playing with the latest smart-phone or trying to become inspired to write code I read almost anything I can get my hands on from Pulp Era adventures to biographies of world leaders and everything in between.

  1. I can't believe you didn't use the iPad keyboard itself. Cheater!
